A message from the Writing Center director

Welcome to the first edition of the Writing Center newsletter and thank you for reading. I could not be happier to re-acquaint you all to the Writing Center and its newest services. As I move into my second year as director, I am excited to implement changes based on feedback I received from the campus community during the 2022-23 academic year.

If you have been eagerly anticipating an expansion of our tutoring services and hours of operation, I thank you for your patience and encourage you to visit our website to see all that’s available.

This fall, our initiatives are defined by the acronym C.A.P.E.S. which stands for

  • Canvas integration
  • Assessment
  • Partnerships
  • Embedded tutoring
  • Scheduling and services

To learn more about these initiatives, we invite you to visit the student resources and faculty resources pages on our new website. If you have any questions that we have not answered there, please reach out to us via email at writingcenter@wayne.edu.

In addition to these new initiatives, I am proud to introduce the first assistant director of the Writing Center, Grace Williams, who is excited to be working with our tutors in meeting the needs of our students. Grace is a Ph.D. candidate in the English department. She began her teaching journey as a Writing Center tutor at her undergraduate institution, Lake Superior State University. From there, she spent two years as a writing center consultant at Eastern Michigan University while getting her M.A. in Literature. Grace brings a wealth of experience in tutoring, workshop development and tutor training.
