Writer’s Studio

The Writer's Studio is a brand new concept here at Wayne State (though it exists in many forms in many other places). The Writer's Studio is located in our Writing Center space on the second floor of the Undergraduate Library (UGL). The studio was created to give students a dedicated place on campus to work on their writing with peer tutors available to assist them as needed.

For students

Writers can visit our physical location and spend time in the Writer's Studio during our business hours. No appointment necessary.

For faculty/staff

Book the Writer's Studio and bring your students to our campus space for a peer review day, a writing workshop day or any other classroom plan that our space can facilitate. Note: If you require students to use computers, they'll need to bring their own or check out a Chromebook.

FAQs

• Is the Writer's Studio only for English majors?

  No! The Writer's Studio is for any current student, faculty or staff member who would like a dedicated place to work on their writing with the opportunity to also ask questions and work with our writing tutors on staff.

• Do I need to make an appointment to visit the Writer's Studio?

  A: No. You can come hang out in the Writer's Studio any time during our regular Writing Center hours.

• What if I'm in the studio but decide I need to work with a tutor for longer than 10 minutes?

  If you think you'll want to work more extensively with a tutor, we'll set you up with an appointment on site. You can either complete that appointment the day of and/or you can schedule it for the future.

• What if I just like hanging out in the dtudio but I'm not working on any writing?

  We love that you love our space 😃, but we do ask that given our limited seating, if it looks like we're busy that day, try to ensure that all writers have an opportunity to be in the studio.

• Do I have to sign-in when I use the Studio?

  Yes. We'll ask for your WSU AccessID and name when you enter the studio. We use your AccessID to keep a record of studio use to help us understand how best to serve the campus community now and in the future. Your use of the studio is not shared with anyone outside of the Writing Center directors and staff.
